To the
Parents, Grandparents, and Caregivers:
The Parent
Teacher Organization (“PTO”) of Nellie H. Stokes Elementary School would
like to extend an invitation to you to be a part of the activities at
our fine school. We have ten meetings per school year to plan and
coordinate our activities. The meetings are held on the first Thursday
of the month in the school library starting at 6:00 PM and our goal is
to keep the meeting to one hour.
The PTO
hosts and/or funds various activities and programs within the school
that directly benefit our children. A few of the activities we host are
the Harvest Celebration dance in the fall, Secret Santa Shop
in December, and a Family Skating Party in February. We provide
financial support to various student clubs and events, the majority of
funds for the field trips, and we purchase the student planners. The PTO
is able to provide all this financial support from only two fundraisers
per school year.
A school is
only as good as the people who support it: school administrators,
teachers, faculty, and, of course, parents, grandparents, and
caregivers. These are the people who make up the PTO. We all have
something in common, wanting to help our children and be a part of their
school experience.
How You Can Help
v
Read the
papers in your child’s Wednesday folder. This is an important
communication tool. All PTO correspondence will go home in the Wed.
folder, whenever possible.
v
Send in the
participation form (early September).
v
Sign up to
receive PTO meeting minutes by email.
v
Attend PTO
meetings.
v
Support
your child’s school and help during events.
PTO Mission Statement
The PTO
(Parent Teacher Organization) functions through voluntary membership
open to all parents, guardians, teachers and staff. Each family is
encouraged to fill out a participation form outlining activities for the
school year in which volunteers are needed. This form will be sent home
in the Wednesday folder in early September.
PTO Objectives:
v
Provide a
monetary base for funding class trips and purchasing school
materials.
v
Promoting
educational and social activities for the benefit of the students.
v
Functioning
as a channel of information within the school district and the
community.
v
Fostering
an atmosphere of school pride.
